“Pup, I’ve been in the military ten years, now, an’ the last time I killed anybody was a couple a years into my career.” Jace began. “There was a buncha raids goin’ on in the Central South area an’ people were a touch on edge. Everybody was jumping at near anythin’ sudden, ‘cept for the werecreatures, since they mostly tell who’s there by scent, anyways. Well, one day someone was sneakin’ around. I could hear him, but I couldn’t smell or see him. He got right up behind me, an’ I snapped his neck.”

*break for other characters to comment*

“He was a soldier of ours that volunteered ta try out the experimental version of the scent-maskin’ spray that stealth people use nowadays. The only reason he was followin’ me was ‘cause we knew each other as trainees an’ he wanted ta see if he could surprise me.” Jace had a deathly serious look on his face. “As soldiers in the military, our job is to keep people safe an’ defend them from harm. Ya can’t do that by chargin’ in fist-first every time one a them sneezes. That’s why ya gotta try an’ get an idea of what’s goin’ on before doin’ somethin’ that can’t be undone. Ya move defensively an’ prepare for the worst without actin’ on it ‘til ya know for sure or got no other option.”

XP I kept it between me and Kbird so the characters wouldn't suddenly start working together because the writers knew what Jace was going to say. But then Sam smelled his grandparents and everybody started slowing down, and Jace got even more ticked off because he can work with competitiveness, but a complete lack of focus is not something he approves of... >_____> *shrugs*

Jace shrugged. “Heck if I know, yet. The run isn’t done until all of you are finished. I never said it was a race.”

“What do ya think you’re doin’, pup? I just said the run isn’t done yet. Run in place until the last one finishes his last lap, an’ I better not see ya stop movin’.”

“Alright, final time for twelve laps for you five is 28 minutes, 15 seconds. Below average for a vampire, but pretty good for werewolves. Not bad for a first run, I’d say.”

“When you’re in the military, you all work for the benefit of the team and ya don’t leave someone behind just because it’s convenient. If I gotta tie ya up together and make you run chain-gang style until one of ya throws up to get it through your heads, I will!” Jace paused. “…Actually, that’s not a bad idea for next week’s run…”

Mattie's based on a roommate Mom had once. :/ Only she was a slut on top of it and slept with guys on Mom's bed because her sheets were clean and her's weren't. e____e Mom said she burned the sheets.
